Types of Explainer Videos

Explainer Videos are videos mainly made use animation and motion graphics and used to convey meaning to products and services that may be difficult to explain. However for those who’re unaware…there are different types of Explainer videos to choose from namely..

Remember the  7up ad that you saw earlier, now that would be a good example of 2D animation. A 2D animation means that the characters and the props in the video will move only in the 2 dimensional space.

2D animation is  most popular and broadly used as it combines both characters and the scenes … created in a 2D space using perspective in order to recreate the illusion of depth.

This type of animation is a great choice for either B2C or B2B . It’s  emotion-evoking and appeals directly to the audience making it the ideal content for people for sharing .

Such kind of animation is used normally to explain new concepts. Its often associated with figures and numbers and can tell the story of how a new product or service can help you. Here pieces of digital footage or animation which create the illusion of motion or rotation.

These are usually combined with audio clips for use in multimedia projects.

It’s  both engaging and candid. This style is ideal for companies that either have a complicated product or service to explain & to bring trust and buzz to a brand.

Example : 2D Motion Graphics Animation

It’s a very interesting concept for an Explainer video . Here as the name suggests, whiteboards are used allong with figures, icons and text to tell a story. Many times hands, pens, pencils and other writing instruments also form a integral part of the whiteboard animation.

Nowdays its being used extensively on the internet to communicate stories, ideas and many other things.

It’s a popular style for B2C and B2B because whiteboard videos give uniqueness to a  product, service or process explanation.

Explainer videos made using 3D animation are a bit rare, mainly because as compared to 2d animation, 3D animation is quite expensive and also takes more time to create. Although some companies do prefer using 3D animation also if they want a better quality output.  3D animation not only looks significantly different from 2D animation, but is also created in a different way. 3D animation produces characters and props that are more realistic and unlike 2D animation which has only two dimensions (height and width). 3D animation has all the three dimensions (height, width and depth). This gives 3D animation a more polished and realistic feel.

When photography mixes with movement stop motion animation occurs in  Explainer videos.

The object  is moved in small amounts and photographed and then these photos are joined in an editing software to creating an illusion of movement. When the series of frames are played as a sequence magic is created.

‘Typo’ means words and ‘graphy’ means animating them.

The visual component of the written word or the style and appearance of printed matter is Typography .

It’s the art or procedure of arranging type or processing data and printing from it.

Words replace objects in animation & this style is based on the animation of typographic fonts to express an idea. When fonts are played with a throw of voiceovers …it gives rise to typography.

Typography Example :
